What Your Human Design Environment Reveals About Your Brand & Marketing Style - Holistic Business Growth
new paradigm accountability

THIS IS ALSO A PODCAST EPISODE!

Bonjour from Montpellier, France! Yes, I’m recording this one from my sister’s apartment in the south of France, living my best digital nomad life. And honestly, what better place to talk about environments than from one of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever been in?

Today’s episode is a solo one, and I’m diving into a Human Design element that I’ve been absolutely obsessed with lately, one I’ve been going deep on with my clients, especially inside my mastermind. It’s called the environment, and I genuinely think it’s one of the most practical and underused tools for building a brand that actually feels like you.
Whether you’re just starting out and trying to figure out how to show up, or you’ve been in business for a while and something just feels off — like your brand doesn’t quite fit, this episode is going to give you a really concrete way to look at that.
So What Is the Human Design Environment?
Your environment is listed right on your Human Design chart, and if you don’t have yours yet, you can grab yours for free here.
It comes from one of the four arrows on your chart, and it represents the conditions where your body relaxes, your wisdom emerges, and your best ideas flow. There are six environments in total, and each one tells you something really specific, not just about where you physically thrive, but about the energetic space you’re meant to create for others.
Here’s why this matters for your business: your brand is essentially the environment you’re inviting potential clients to step into. It shows up in your messaging, your visuals, your content, your offers — all of it. When your brand reflects your environment, it feels magnetic and authentic. When it doesn’t, it feels exhausting. And if you’ve ever felt like you’re doing all the right things but something still feels off, this might be exactly why.
Think of it this way: your brand is an extension of your energetic environment. Understanding yours gives you clues about how your audience experiences you, what kind of content you’re naturally wired to create, and where you should be showing up to market yourself.
The Six Environments as Branding Archetypes

Markets — The Connector

Vibe: vibrant community hub, a curated market in full swing
Markets people bring things and people together — and their brand should feel the same way. Think seasonality, curation, and quality over consistency. You’re not wired to sell the same thing year-round, and that’s not a flaw. That’s your design.  Lean into offers that shift with the seasons — a mastermind in winter, a workshop series in summer. Your clients come to you because they trust your curation. They don’t want to sift through everything — they want you to tell them what actually matters.
Marketing sweet spot: networking, collaborations, referral partnerships, affiliate relationships.
A message that fits: “I help you find what’s truly aligned for you — cutting through the noise so you can choose what actually fits.”
Caves — The Sanctuary
Vibe: cozy living room, private retreat space, a supportive hideaway
Safety, security, and intimacy are everything for a caves person — and that energy should be palpable in your brand from the very first touchpoint. When someone lands on your website or gets on a call with you, do they feel held? Grounded? Safe? That’s your superpower. You do your best work with deeply aligned clients in intimate containers — and trying to stretch beyond that will drain you fast.
Simplicity is your friend. A clear, foundational framework that doesn’t overwhelm people is far more powerful than a complicated multi-step system.
Marketing sweet spot: high-touch conversations, small workshops, private communities, in-person connection.
A message that fits: “I offer a grounded, supportive space where you can feel safe, seen, and deeply held as you move through transformation.”
Kitchens — The Alchemist
Vibe: creative art studio, a community kitchen where something totally new is always cooking
Kitchens people are energized by collaboration, spontaneity, and the beautiful mess of creating something from scratch. Your brand should feel vibrant, alive, and a little unpredictable — because that’s where your magic lives. You’re not here to follow a rigid system. You’re here to take a bunch of ingredients — ideas, people, energy — and make something no one’s ever seen before. Your clients aren’t looking for step-by-step. They’re looking for an experience.
Marketing sweet spot: live videos, behind-the-scenes content, collaborations, spontaneous reels.
A message that fits: “I don’t offer a rigid formula. I guide you through a creative, collaborative process where real transformation happens.”
Valleys — The Messenger
Vibe: intimate café conversation, a podcast studio
This is my environment, so I’m speaking from experience here. Valleys people are deeply attuned to frequency, vibe, and the energy of the spaces and people around them. We thrive on reciprocal exchange, real conversation, and genuine connection. We’re not here to teach from a pedestal; we’re here to co-create. If you’re a valleys person trying to build a brand that’s all one-way content and no real dialogue, you’re going to feel it. Audio, video, live interaction — that’s where your voice (literally) carries the most weight.
Marketing sweet spot: podcasting, video content, live conversations, interview series.
A message that fits: “I create a space for real connection and exchange where you will be seen, heard, and actively engaged in your transformation.”
Mountains — The Visionary
Vibe: high-end mountaintop retreat with views for miles
Mountains people are big picture thinkers who help clients rise above the noise and see things from a higher, clearer vantage point. Your brand should feel elevated, spacious, and premium, because that’s exactly what you’re offering. You don’t need to be constantly producing content. One powerful insight can shift everything for someone. Your clients aren’t beginners; they’re ready for the next level, and they’re willing to invest in the right person to get them there. White space in your schedule isn’t laziness. It’s a requirement.
Marketing sweet spot: long-form content, podcasting, books, Substack, strategic partnerships.
A message that fits: “I help you zoom out, see your situation from a higher perspective, and make aligned decisions from that clarity.”
Shores — The Bridge Builder
Vibe: the beach at sunrise — where two worlds meet
Shores people live in the in-between, and they are made for it. Transitions, thresholds, the messy middle — that’s your territory. You hold complexity without needing to resolve it into a tidy answer, and you have an almost uncanny ability to ask the exact right question at the exact right moment. You likely have a lot of tools in your toolkit, and the magic is in how you customize the experience for each person depending on where they are in their journey. Your clients aren’t looking for a formula; they’re looking for someone who can meet them exactly where they are.
Marketing sweet spot: real conversations, partnerships, cross-promotions, community referrals.
A message that fits: “I support you in the in-between — helping you navigate change, gain clarity, and move forward in a way that feels truly aligned.”
Three Questions to Journal On
  1. Does my brand feel like my environment? Go look at your website or your last few pieces of content. Does it actually feel like you — or does it feel like someone else’s brand you’ve been trying to squeeze into?
  2. Does my content reflect my environment? A mountains person grinding away at daily Instagram reels is going to feel miserable. A valleys person writing blog posts no one interacts with is going to feel invisible. Is your content format working with your design?
  3. Are you marketing in the right places? A markets person will grow faster through collaboration than endless solo content creation. Where are your people — and are you actually showing up there?
